UEFA Launches Formal Investigation Concerning Pedro Neto Following Push Involving PSG Stadium Attendant.
European football's governing body has opened formal action against Chelsea's the Portuguese international after he shoved a young stadium attendant in a Champions League defeat against Paris St‑Germain.
The Portugal international, Pedro Neto, shoved the attendant in stoppage time of the knockout stage first leg in Paris – where his team suffered a heavy defeat – which caused him falling from a chair.
It sparked an altercation between both sets of players.
Officials stated the case has been opened against the player on grounds of "conduct contrary to sporting spirit" as per its disciplinary regulations.
"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will decide on this case at a later date," European football's governing body stated.
Neto said sorry after the match and blamed getting swept up "in the intensity of the match" while he was attempting to regain possession of the match ball.
"That is not who I am. It happened in the passion of the game and I want to apologise. I gave him my shirt. I'm really sorry about it - I feel I have to apologise to him," Neto told the media.
"I don't speak French well, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha intervened and told him I was not like this.
"Finally he [the ball boy] laughed and I presented him with my jersey and said sorry about 35 times. He could see what had happened and was satisfied with the situation."
The London club face Paris St-Germain next Tuesday for the return fixture, after Newcastle's visit to Stamford Bridge this weekend in the Premier League.
