The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
