Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
